Cookie policy – Nzsoccerodds
Odds pages are light on technology, and Nzsoccerodds keeps its use of cookies modest. This policy names the cookies and similar tools that operate on the site, what each one does, and how a visitor can refuse or alter it. A cookie is a small text file saved by the browser; local and session storage entries and counting pixels work much the same way.
Which law applies
The Privacy Act 2020 is the law that governs cookies and similar tools when they collect personal information, in particular its information privacy principles (section 22). Collection needs a lawful purpose connected to the site (IPP 1), and the person must know what is collected and why (IPP 3). Security safeguards are to be reasonable (IPP 5), retention no longer than needed (IPP 9), and disclosure outside New Zealand meets IPP 12. Any choice in the cookie banner can be changed at any time.
Cookies set automatically
These are the files without which the site would work badly: they hold a session, share load among servers, defend forms against abuse and remember the banner choice. No separate choice is requested. A session file lapses when the browser shuts, and the stored choice stays for twelve months at most.
Cookies set after a choice
Settings such as the odds format last used are kept by functional files. Analytics files count page views and show which football pages get read, helping to improve content. Neither type is set until a choice is made in the banner. IP addresses are shortened for analysis, and profiles that track behaviour over many sites are not created.
Other providers
Embedded outside content, like videos or maps, can set files of its own, and the privacy rules of that provider then apply; objections go to it. Advertising cookies that build profiles for personalised ads are not set by Nzsoccerodds unless the banner choice is clear.
Refusal and withdrawal
Through the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, a choice can be altered or withdrawn whenever wanted, with effect for the future. Browser privacy settings can block and delete cookies as well. After deletion of the necessary files the banner is shown again and some features may briefly not work.
Complaints
Complaints about how personal information is handled can go to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. The privacy policy of this site explains the handling.
