Privacy policy – Nzsoccerodds
A site of football odds and explanations needs little personal information, and Nzsoccerodds collects no more than that. The Privacy Act 2020, with its information privacy principles (section 22), is the law that applies.
The agency in charge
Responsibility for personal information collected through Nzsoccerodds lies with the body that runs the site. The name, address and e-mail are available at socceroddsnz.com, and all questions on personal information use that route.
Information collected
A log entry is created by the server at every page request: IP address, date and time, address requested, volume of data, referring page and browser type. The aim is security and detection of abuse, and entries are deleted or shortened after 90 days so that nobody can be identified from them. When someone writes to the editors, a name, e-mail address and the message are received and used just for the reply. Reader accounts, deposits and bets do not exist on the site, so payment details and identity documents are never collected.
Purposes and principles
Lawful purposes tied to the site justify the collection: keeping the site working and secure, replying to messages and, once the banner choice is made, measuring the audience (IPP 1). People are told what is gathered and why (IPP 3), and use is confined to those purposes (IPP 10). Automated decisions and profiling are not part of it.
Service providers and transfer abroad
No information is sold. It reaches the providers that host the site, deliver its content and manage e-mail, and public authorities when the law demands. A provider may hold information outside New Zealand; disclosure abroad takes place only if the recipient is under comparable safeguards or the person has been told and agrees, in line with IPP 12.
Protection and retention
Loss and misuse are guarded against by reasonable safeguards (IPP 5). Information is kept for as long as the purpose requires (IPP 9): server logs for 90 days at most, correspondence until the matter ends plus the time needed for possible claims. A notifiable privacy breach, one that has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, is notified to the Privacy Commissioner and to those affected.
Access and correction rights
Everyone can ask for access to the information held about them (IPP 6) and for correction (IPP 7). The answer is given as soon as reasonably practicable and within 20 working days of the request at the latest (section 40).
Complaints
Someone who thinks their privacy has been breached can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
